You know what really makes me feel old? Seeing a book I cherished as a child (so much that I slept with it by my side the first night I got it) celebrate its 15th anniversary! It has been that long?
Despite this bittersweet feeling of aging, I am crazy happy to see the new cover for Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone for the Scholastic edition! They will be unveiling fresh covers for the following books as well. This one was designed by Kazu Kibuishi, and not the original illustrator Mary GrandPré.

What do you think?

I like it, it has more depth of space than the original
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better!
DeleteIt's a bit busy, and the writing doesn't pop as much as the first, but I still really like it :)
ReplyDeleteThe font is drab compared to the former. Hmm. Still like it too!
DeleteWow!.. Love it.. Definitely way better than the original!.. It does MUCH more justice to the HP story line. I have read all 7 books btw :)... Hehe.. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree about it doing more justice. The rest of the covers will portray pivotal scenes in the books well.
DeleteGAH! I'm usually not a fan of redone covers. They sometimes lack, but this... I LOVE this! I do agree with the font, though. I like it in the stone better than just written across the bottom in small print.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you on that. They normally disappoint. For real, the stone makes it pop 100x more. Cannot believe they did not use more creativity in that area.
DeleteAm I the only one who preferred the previous cover? I think it's because the title is more,um forgive me for the lack of word, "incorporated" (like it's part of the drawing itself not just something that was written there) on the previous cover thus, is also more striking. The publisher's name(Scholastic) on the front of the new cover just put me off. :(
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely aright about the font thing. It looks like it was thrown on top of it. That is my only criticism. I like the scene it is portraying, that is the winning element to me. Or maybe because it's new I am crazy about it. LOL.
DeleteI adore the original covers, but I'm totally drooling over the new cover as well. There is just so much to look at, so it has my imagination going into overdrive. I would have picked this book up without bothering to read the back as a child.
ReplyDeleteThere is one problem with it though: now I have the sudden urge to repurchase the entire series just so I can have the pretty book covers for myself!
